Linda Richardson and Jesús León♫ A full and sociable house Saturday evening at All Saints Great Glemham for soprano Linda Richardson and tenor Jesús León.  We much enjoyed them closing the show with the duet from Act 1 of La Bohème walking through the audience to sing the final lines from what we suspect is the vestry.

Alde Valley Spring Festival 2016Saturday artist and Rendham resident Maggi Hambling will again open the Alde Valley Spring Festival in Great Glemham.  At previous openings Ms Hambling has been highly entertaining (especially the aglet/Michael Gambon story) and given a faintly surrealist edge as she spoke from the raised bucket of a JCB.

Country mice at the Alde Valley Spring FestivalLast Saturday at the opening of the Alde Valley Spring Festival in Great Glemham Maggi Hambling was just as funny as last year, there was someone off the telly we couldn't put a name to, Ipswich MP Ben Gummer with baby son and Alex Johnson being violent towards a dead tree but for us the stars were the country mice.

bloody Christmas ... eh?Merry Berry at Mistletoe & WineIt was our first visit to the Great Glemham village hall Saturday for the Alde Valley Players Mistletoe & Wine.  In the first half Katy sang beautifully to digital accompaniment, acapella quintet from Snape Five in a Bar prompted toe tapping with a sleigh bell accompanied Christmas standard but the triumph of the half was Merry Berry cake baking assisted by a two litre bottle of vodka (from Waitrose of course).  We l♥ved the conceit at the intermission that the food was dropped by the passing air ambulance (who were to benefit from the evening) and served elvishly in Christmas stockings to a full house.

Goddess, Ron and AmandaLunchers were Roger and Margaret, Mr and Mrs Gentleman Plumber, Goddess, Amanda and Ron, Tony M and NaTCH.  Earl Soham and Adnam's beers on offer but the young barmaid seemed unaware live beer should be pulled through before serving and my Fullers London Pride was a bit dodgy ... Roger complained and from then on the beer was fine.  Conversation about how well Goddess was looking after a very serious illness and Ron pointed out the brick built dovecote visible across the road.  AfARs were received but can't find them at the mo'.  (last visit  previous lunch)

An atypically sunny day for our first Anniversary!  John B, Malcolm,The Glemham Crown pub sign NaTCH, Spadge and Andy enjoyed well presented food, Greene King IPA (Speckled Hen also on offer), and pleasant staff.  The car park was full at 1pm and the other customers were a more mixed bunch than the last time we visited.  An awful lot of the conversation was inexplicably about watches.  Pressure of business meant that Malcolm had to leave without a pudding.  AfAR from Hugh (skiing) and John FH (too far, too busy).  Birthday greetings received from Clive and Richard.  (last visit ↓  subsequent lunch  previous lunch)

Great Glemham Crown  des' dinners 1

The first des' dinners.  Attendees Andy, John B and NaTCH.  The pub was pleasant enough if a bit anodyne.  The other customers seemed primarily retired folks who eat early and left early.  Some conversation was a little self consciously about 'business' and John's pursuit of a boiler for the new brewery.  (first visit  subsequent lunch)
