Late Saturday night a silver BMW 325 collided with a Leiston tree giving the driver potentially life changing injuries ... even quite small trees can be surprisingly unforgiving.

2019 is the centenary year of Aldeburgh Cinema (Leiston pre-dates them by five years) and they will be marking it with their first Cinema on the Beach. We've been told that Aldeburgh folk would dress up for the cinema and be greeted in the foyer by the manager wearing evening dress, a floral buttonhole and smoking a cigar ... these days celebrities don't feel the need for a tie:)

We regret missing the dry ice rink in Leiston earlier this month, it was terrific fun when six years ago a dry ice rink settled in Framlingham for one night only.

Lowestoft had a fishing village known as The Grit, and Poetry People are presently touring a words, music and film show about the lost village. You've missed it in Halesworth but there are shows this week in Ipswich, Leiston and yes Lowestoft.

In the first episode of Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads (1973) Bob and Terry (who has been away in the army for five years) bump into each on train and Bob mentions owning a car, Terry clearly doesn't really believe him. Difficult to remember there was a time when it wasn't a statutory right to own a car. We suspect this peloton are leaving Garrett & Sons Leiston, the cyclist in the middle is signalling, no hands to his right and a flat cap on the motorcyclist.

Leiston police station holds an engraved man's watch that was found on Aldeburgh beach August last year. They suspect the watch may be of sentimental value and perhaps the loser is a visitor who has returned to the Suffolk coast this summer?
