Three quarter view of this fine car  SOLD    December 2006

TVR Granturas Mk2

£19,500

Registered:
780 MTE  5th February 1960
Chassis: 7 F 132

Rebuilt for Spadge to race this originally Ford powered 1170cc and drum braked car has been restored from the bare chassis upwards and uprated (reversibly) to historically correct Mk2a specification with disc brakes and a MGA engine.  It is potentially eligible for the Goodwood Revival, Classic Le Mans, Gentlemen Drivers , HSCC, CSCC Equipe GTS series and with the drum brakes refitted other European race series.  There is a copious photo record of the restoration on the bulletin board.

Chassis
Fully restored with
Offside view competition poly bushes throughout, Protec shock absorbers, adjustable torsion bar fittings, all new bearings and brakes, competition pads, stainless flexible hoses, new Dunlop Historic tyres, all new steering components and a full FIA legal welded in roll cage.

Body
The body was bonded back onto the chassis with all stress cracks removed.  The bonnet and doors are lightweight race items and an original style dash is fitted with appropriately period instruments.  It is painted with a two pack paint in a period red colour that is commercially available in spray cans for those racing repairs!  The front
Nearside viewwindscreen and Perspex side screens are new as is the the rear screen which is fitted with aluminium tabs that tie to the the roll cage.  Original style badges have been fitted and particular care has been taken to retain the original door handles and window frames.

Engine
Built around an 1800 three bearing engine the crank, flywheel and clutch cover have been lightened and dynamically balanced.  MGA Twincam rods have been lightened, balanced and fitted with
The engine bay forged pistons.  The head has big valves and has been flowed.  A full race camshaft designed to give 140 bhp at 7000 rpm is fitted and the current rolling road figures are 115 bhp at 5700 rpm and 129ft-lb of torque at 2760 rpm.  A different design of exhaust should see the rest of the power unleashed but having experienced the acceleration under race conditions I would not put it at the top of the shopping list!  Facet fuel pump, Weber 45 on a competition manifold, alloy radiator, electric fan, alloy header, water and oil catch tanks, and an Aldon distributor.

Transmission and Running Gear
Close ratio MGA gearbox, TVR diff carrier with MGA/MGB 3.9 diff fitted and new universal joints on the TVR drive shafts.

Other stuff:
All new wiring loom and an eight gallon race fuel tank.

This car has been built to be FIA legal but papers have not yet been applied for.
