... a bit Suffolk

A VW Caravelle and a mountain of tools stolen in Snape last week.
Not surprisingly the Snape Maltings has cancelled the Aldeburgh Festival but is understandably holding off on a decision about the proms in August. No word we've seen about next month's Alde Valley Spring Festival in Great Glemham.
Aldeburgh Cinema has closed for the duration so we won't get to see Emma this afternoon but the Woodbridge Riverside seems to be partially functioning. The Red Rooster festival near Thetford has been postponed to September and Life Arts have postponed April's Woodbridge festival to next year. All Snape Maltings music events cancelled until the end of April (we were lucky), the Phoenix Singers concert in Framlingham next month cancelled as is the Campsea Ashe Spring Fayre this Saturday and still only three virus cases in Suffolk.

After decades listening to the recorded trio from Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte heard it live at the Snape Maltings last night. It prompted a closing of the eyes and an impromptu sigh. Fell in l♥ve with mezzo Martha Jones for her singing, acting and very 1930s baggy trousers ... still a few seats for tonight.

♫ Yes it is a long way off but March next year English Touring Opera are playing Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte at the Snape Maltings. We've never seen it live and adore the serenity of the Soave sia il vento trio.

Friday at the Snape Maltings a young boy went way out in the reeds to be the first greeting Daddy Christmas arriving on a sailing barge. When Santa came in sight we could see the boy's hat dashing about among the reeds and frantically waving hands. Very gratifying it meant so much to the youngster ... have a good one.

It was pretty windy for Daddy Christmas' arrival yesterday at the Snape Maltings, everybody including Santa and elves were hanging onto their hats. The word in the substantial queue to meet Santa in House & Garden was he will stay until the last child is seen, nice to hear.

Not surprisingly with this weather tomorrow's farmer's market at the Snape Maltings cancelled and Once Upon a Labrador at the Wingfield Barns postponed to Saturday 5 May. But as of Tuesday Slice of Life's four person Comedy Night tomorrow is still happening unlike when the Framlingham Crown attempted a comedy night.

♫ You don't have to be pretentious (though it might help) to enjoy opera especially the comedies. In April the excellent English Touring Opera return to the Snape Maltings with The Marriage of Figaro and much nearer Thursday OperaUpClose present a stripped down modern The Magic Flute at the Ipswich Wolsey.

♫ Booking for the Aldeburgh Proms this August opened yesterday ... we rather fancy Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Loudon Wainright (father of Rufus).
