Ten stunning homes at the Snape MaltingsA couple of months ago when we first noticed a roped off bit at the back of the Snape Maltings we foolishly thought Oh, they're going to posh up the car park but no, it's Ten stunning river view homes ... reckon you'd need a spirit level and a road map as well as binoculars to see a river from there.

For six years we thought we had seen the Old Glory Molly Dancers at a Framlingham street fayre but at Old Glory molly dancerthe Snape Maltings Sunday we realised that had been the East Suffolk Morris Men.  Mind you we didn't get to see much mollying Sunday either as we arrived just as they took a break and then Daddy Christmas was spotted in the distance.  Old Glory are sufficiently intriguing, and just a little bit scary, that we will try again this Saturday night at either the Eastbridge Eel's Foot or the Aldringham Parrot and Punchbowl.

Sidney Dance GroupFancy your chances on Strictly?  Don't reckon you'd live long with the Sidney Dance Group, can't believe how hard those dancers work.  The show has choreography that on occasion intentionally overwhelms you with the sheer complexity of what's happening on stage and there are curiously poignant computer graphics too.  Second and last show tonight at the Snape Maltings and then they move on to Barcelona.

Albert Herring dress rehearsalWe thought we didn't like Benjamin Britten's music but the dress rehearsal of his only comic opera Albert Herring at the Snape Maltings yesterday was a stunner.  Re-set in the 1950s it looked luscious, was actually funny and a bit sexy too.  A very real joy to sit just a few feet from eight operatic singers giving it some real welly ... very rock'n roll ... if not actually rock'n roll.  It's on all week SEE IT!

Approaching Snape from Tunstall

Major buildingIf you approach the Snape Maltings in daylight it's obvious something major is happening.  (We've been sliding past in the dark and only vaguely aware something was up.)  What's happening is new rehearsal rooms, small concert room and stuff plus twenty homes grouped round a private courtyard.  Nice.
