Framlingham Market has a new web site
Where not *everyone* is barking!

th 18 de 08A while back the East African printed the pic Framlingham Station landlord and chef Mike Jones is holding on the left there asking the question is the man in the straw hat the then landlord Fred Rix?  We think it's a very safe assumption as the pic below was loaned to previous Station landlord John Bjornson by Fred's daughter Joan and the moustachioed man holding the reins looks very much like the same bloke?  An interesting footnote is John B told us when he took over The Station the single storied buildings at the rear were floored with hard yellow Suffolk bricks like the stable floor at the Fram Crown.  Over the years grooves had been worn in the bricks by the wheels of carriages, traps and carts stored on them whilst the vehicle owners used the train.

Joan Rix's parents at the rear of The Station

All this historic activity prompted Mike and bar manager Gareth Clelland to pay their own photographic homage to the past landlords who have served Fram.  (Thanks to 21 on the Market Hill for the loan of the hat.)

Framlingham Community Centre Trust public meeting

Framlingham Community Centre Trust public meetingThe public meeting Friday was probably the last public manifestation of the Framlingham Community Centre Trust and better attended than we thought it might be.  As the trustees judged the Mills Charity would be the only local organisation the Charity Commissioners were likely to find acceptable the proposal was to give the remaining £12,000 to the Mills Charity and there was near unanimous agreement in the hall.  The donation would be on the condition that it would only be used for a future community centre or similar.  See the very nearly final accounts here.

sa 29 no 081929  Bernt Balchen and Richard Byrd made the first flight over the South Pole

Little organ outside the Westbury CentreIf you were anywhere near the Framlingham Westbury Centre this morning you would have heard this cheery little British made organ (with tingy teensy bell) telling you about the St John Christmas Sale.  Towards the end of the sale the announcement for Guess Pooh Bear's Birthday brought all the little girls running and Melissa was genuinely stunned and very, very pleased to have won him.

The Fen Meadow, Framlingham this evening

It must have snowed overnight in Framlingham, it's been snowing on and off all day and though it hasn't settled it has been cold.

we 12 no 081927  The first London to Brighton veteran car run took place

Steak Framlingham @ 21/6dWe've heard from two different and usually reliable sources that Framlingham's Crown Hotel has new tenants.  What goes round comes round but we're going to miss Roy ... he certainly made things happen; the bungee jump, music on the hill and at least three street fayres.

mo 10 no 081931  30+ people injured when four elephants stampeded at the London Lord Mayor's Show

Framlingham and Tommy Mills muso Ed Sheeran won The Next Big Thing in Norwich last night ... a popular decision judging by the crowd reaction, have to say last time we saw Ed on stage he emptied the bar, a sort of red haired Billy Bragg.

Click for more pics hereThat's Danny Pullen's granddaughter sprinkling him with 80th birthday confetti this afternoon.  Danny celebrated his birthday today with a luncheon party at the Framingham Sports Club who had put up a copious and very rewarding cold collation.  Hairtrix on Fram's Market Hill was previously The Sombrero coffee bar (Piggy Pete still speaks of the café fondly) and Danny ran it from 1959 to 1964(?); see more pics here.

Last weekend near the coast there was what the East African would probably call a crime spree; vandalism in Framlingham and Wickham Market, car crime in Earl Soham, a burglary in Yoxford and disturbingly a middle aged woman assaulted in Leiston ... bet Constable Mortimer's a busy bee.

Inspector Neil ReidThis is Inspector Neil Reid nobly wearing his hat because we asked him to.  Neil is now stationed at Leiston and newly commands the Aldeburgh, Framlingham, Leiston and Saxmundham Safer Neighbourhood Teams ... and he cycled to work today.  Read his bio here.
