... a bit Suffolk
|we 26 Dec|
There was a very heavy frost in Framlingham yesterday Christmas morning. Defrosting the car took at least 15 minutes contributing to us arriving 30 seconds late for the Felixstowe Christmas Dip a St Elizabeth Hospice fund raiser. 30 seconds is relevant as understandably a lot of the dippers don't stay in that long. We spent a lot of time fending off mince pies as did this police officer who was surprisingly chatty ... perhaps a bit bored.

Expect delays and parking difficulties when the Women's Tour of Britain starts in Framlingham tomorrow (we enjoyed the 2014 stage start in Felixstowe), takes a turn around near the coast, returns to Framlingham and then goes on to finish in Southwold.

Wrabness on the south bank of the river Stour is Essex if only just. From there you can see Grayson Perry's A House for Essex against the cranes of Felixstowe port. From what we can make out Perry doesn't actually own the house ... can't say we're smitten.

JOB(S) Felixstowe Port is taking online applications for an engine apprentice (or possibly apprentices) starting August/September so would suit a school leaver (or leavers).

The Aviva Women's Tour is returning to coastal Suffolk this summer for the third time. In 2014 it was a start in Felixstowe, an eventful 2015 finish in Aldeburgh and as it seems to be toggling between stage starts and arrivals a stage one departure in Southwold this June.

Felixstowe's mayor Doreen Savage has emailed to tell us that the Christmas Day Dip had 352 dippers and raised in the region of £20,000 for the St Elizabeth Hospice. As dip registrations were five or ten pounds that's an impressive amount of sponsorship!

We survived Christmas despite getting up far too early Christmas morning and driving to Felixstowe in the dark to find the satnav had taken us to the part of the front where David Berry's cortege had assembled but no Christmas Dip. Fortunately some dog walkers put us right and though we were still far too early suddenly the Dip was upon us and it was rewarding to see the dipper's pleasure of achievement. The dip raised an unspecified number of thousands for the St Elizabeth Hospice.

Earlier this week a Land Rover Defender in Wickham Market had a window smashed and items stolen ... bit concerning this crime is being dealt with by PC Gemma Spink at the Felixstowe station, not Woodbridge?
